Welcome to my website!
The unique character of our town stems from its diversity and the financial health of its citizens and government. As a Borough Council member I will concentrate on protecting that diversity and strengthening the economic foundation of our community for the present and into the future.
Protecting our Diversity
We must keep Princeton affordable so that our seniors and lower-income neighbors are not forced out by the specter of ever-growing property taxes. We can increase our support by enhancing the social services that are so important to those residents who live on a fixed income. For instance, we have four affordable housing agencies serving our community, and the merger of those agencies can cut down an overly large bureaucracy and send more of our affordable housing dollars to those who truly need them the most.
Ensuring Financial Stability
The ongoing economic crisis reminds us daily how important our short- and long-term financial responsibilities are. I believe that many opportunities exist to improve our local economy, and as a Borough Council member I will embrace those opportunities as a means of keeping our community vibrant and financially stable.
For example, much of our information technology is outdated and simple upgrades along with employee training could create immediate savings and efficiencies. In the longer term, I believe it is in our best interest to explore the possibility of consolidating our municipality with Princeton Township so that we may improve our local services and stem the tide of rising property taxes.
Biography
Besides being a longtime Borough resident and mother of two, I have spent my time in Princeton actively participating and volunteering within our community. I was privileged to be a member of the Executive Committee of the Friends of the Public Library, serving as the Auction Chair for the first benefit in the new building and the Chair of the entire event the following year. I belong to the Board of People & Stories/Gente y Cuentos, a wonderful organization that provides opportunities to explore literature to those who would not normally be able to do so. I have also enjoyed my time serving in leadership positions in the Parents Associations at the schools attended by my children.
Professionally, I earned my MBA from Northwestern University and worked for Salomon Brothers before heading to the Chicago Board of Trade to trade interest rate futures. I currently work for Wickenden Associates, an educational consulting firm that specializes in Head of School searches for independent schools. I consult on searches and also serve as a member of the research team.
With your help, I can bring my experience as a volunteer and businesswoman to the Borough Council so that we can ensure the continuing diversity of Princeton and improve the financial future of our community. If you share my vision of a diverse and fiscally responsible Borough, I hope you will vote for me and my running-mate, Roger Martindell on November 2.
